Following this he attended the Slade School of Art in London and became a full time artist in 1970. He exhibited at the Royal Academy in London and held a solo exhibition at Abbot Hall, Kendal in 1975. The same year he received a gold medal at the Paris Salon, the second ever British artist to receive such an accolade.
