Tennants is excited to present a fantastic single-owner collection of predominantly British gold coins for sale in January. This collection has been meticulously assembled by a local Yorkshire gentleman with a keen eye.
The collection primarily features coins from the British sovereign series, showcasing gold coins from all monarchs since the first issue of the modern sovereign during the reign of George III, including some notable rarities and top-grade coins. Additionally, there is a small selection of coins outside the sovereign series, including guineas and half guineas, gold Britannias, a few foreign gold coins, and a hammered Scottish sword and sceptre piece.
Highlights include a George VI proof five-pound coin, one of only approximately 5,000 pieces issued as part of the Coronation proof sets in 1937. No further gold coins were issued during his reign, making them scarce and desirable pieces. Other notable items in the sale include five-pound and two-pound coins from the reigns of Queen Victoria and Edward VII, and a range of earlier Victorian shield-back issues.
The comprehensive sovereign section features extensive date runs of good quality coins, offering collectors an excellent opportunity to fill gaps in their own collections.
