Bombsquad is a York-based non-profit community arts organisation passionate about street art and beyond, aiming to enrich the cultural landscape of York whilst raising money for local charities.
Previous projects have raised over £20,000 for York Food Bank in 2022, and almost £12,000 for York Mind in 2023.
This year, Bombsquad is raising money for SASH (Preventing Youth Homelessness Together), a registered charity preventing homelessness in young people aged 16 to 25 throughout North and East Yorkshire.
For this year’s project, from 22nd June until 7th July, Bombsquad will occupy a four-storey building in the centre of York with an exhibition of retrospective and contemporary spray paint culture, graffiti and street art, by internationally renowned contemporary and local street artists, featuring three galleries, a cinema room, artist shop and live DJ's. One floor of the exhibition will explore the history of York's graffiti and street art scene from the 1980's through to present day, with photography , video and press clippings from the exclusive archives of Keith Hopewell, alongside his new work. Also featuring three decades of paintings from artist James Jessop's collection, and one floor will welcome a selection of artists to paint a mural or create an installation. Last floor will host the shop and live DJ's, where artworks from the exhibiting artists and more will be on sale, with all profit from the sale being donated to SASH. To support this year’s fundraising project, participating artists have specially created and kindly donated unique works which will be sold by In this timed online auction.
