HMS Royal George: An Oak Box and Cover, of rectangular form with oak leaf and acorn crest within acanthus leaf borders, the base with a plaque inscribed Made from a portion of the wreck of HM Ship ROYAL GEORGE of 110 guns which on the 29 Aug 1782 and sunk at SPITHEAD…. and with a later plaque inscribed Given to the YORK GEORGIAN SOCIETY by Col WTC HUFFAM

When launched on 18 February 1756 HMS Royal George was the largest warship in the world, on the 29 August 1782, she was intentionally rolled so maintenance could be performed on the hull, however the ship took on water and sank. More than 800 lives were lost, making it one of the most deadly maritime disasters in British territorial waters

Key lacking. Section of gadrooning detached from lower right side but retained, the uncarved strip that runs along the underside lacking from this section. Polish in fair condition with some areas of fading. The plaque heavily tarnished.
