A Rare Eight Day Oak Longcase Clock, signed Geo Mills of Ripon, circa 1720, caddied top, arched moulded trunk door, 12-inch square brass dial with a Roman and Arabic chapter ring signed, matted centre with seconds and date aperture, movement with four finely turned ringed pillars, anchor escapement and inside countwheel striking on a bell, 220cm high

George Mills was working in Alnwick in 1690's and then moved to Sunderland in 1700. He eventually moved to Ripon around 1710 until circa 1730. He is known to have made the Ripon cathedral clock in 1724. A similar clock can be seen in "Clockmakers of Northern England", pg44. This clock is illustrated on the front cover of "Ripons Clockmaker" by David F.Severs.

09.06.14, Case surfaces have been polished, caddy has been re-built, sides of the hood are replaced, parts of the backboard have been replaced, rebuilt plinth, dial centre with a minor casting fault mark and has been re-gilded, some of the engraved decoration to the dial centre has worn, movement looks complete, later bell.
