Signed with the artist's initials and dated 1913, inscribed on a plaque attached to the frame, oil on panel, 25.5cm by 33.5cm

Provenance: M Newman Ltd, 43a Duke Street, St James's, London

The son of the artist Charles Blair Leighton, educated at University College School. Exhibited annually at the Royal Academy 1878-1920 but never an Academician or an Associate.

The work is in an excellent state of preservation with good thick impasto in places and delicately applied brushwork in other areas, there is some surface dirt and discoloured varnish throughout and It is contained within a very good quality London made Wilkie swept gilt plaster and wooden frame with pierced corners and centres, probably placed on the work by Newman Fine Art. 081009
