A Fine Mahogany Eight Day Longcase Clock, signed Henry Hindley, circa 1760, adapted to make the caddied top detachable, scroll and floral gilt decorated border, side viewing glazed panels, arched trunk door flanked with canted corners, 12-inch arched brass dial with a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring signed, matted centre with seconds dial, date dial in the arch, movement with four tulip shaped pillars, anchor escapement with rack striking on a bell, 239cm high

Henry Hindley (1701-1771), born near Wigan and moved to work in Petergate, York in 1731. A very fine and talented clockmaker of his time who excelled in making complicated clockwork year duration, complex calendarwork, bracket and turret clocks. In 1750 he made a clock for York Minster.

09.06.14, Case surfaces have been polished, the caddy now adapted to make a detachable caddy, wooden dial surround with some old repairs, some minor scratches and dents marks in places, some minor cracks to the trunk, dial and movement are clean.
