Portrait of Sir George Howland Willoughby Beaumont Bt, seated in a red armchair
Inscribed with the artist's and sitter's name on the mount, extensively inscribed on an old catalogue entry verso, a further inscription on an old label, pencil and watercolour, 22cm by 16cm;
Two further drawings, one portraying a child wearing Victorian costume, holding a sword and standing beside a rocking horse, pastel on buff paper, 18.5cm by 14.5cm, and a drawing of a military gentleman, signed and dated B Baldwin 1846, said to be Lt John Baldwin, 22nd Foot, vignette, 20.5cm by 15.5cm (3)

Sir George Howland Willoughby Beaumont, 8th Bart (1799-1845) was the cousin of Sir George Beaumont, a friend of John Constable and other artists, scholars and gentlemen. The drawing was purchased at Sotheby's on 16th October 1980.

Picture 1 - in fairly good condition, though some slight fading may have occurred as the background colour is slightly yellow. Contained within a washline cream card mount and plain outer frame under glass. Picture 2 - good colour and contained within an outer black and partially gilded card mount. Some of the veneer on the maplewood frame is missing and cracked. Has an inner gilt slip under glass. Picture 3 - faded, the background colour having gone yellow as well as the mount being damaged. In a plain outer gilt plaster and wooden frame. Frame scratched and some of the outer plaster is missing.
