A Hook and Spike Thirty Hour Striking Wall Clock, attributed to Richard Gilkes, circa 1740, four posted two train movement with anchor escapement and outside countwheel striking on a top mounted bell, 10-inch square brass dial with Roman numeral chapter ring, dial centre with Gilkes typical ring and zigzag decoration, single pierced hand, 27cm high

Richard Gilkes worked in Adderbury (Oxon) around 1736 until his death in 1787. He was from a Quaker family and was probably the original user of the zigzag dial decoration.

28.06.11, The dial and chapter ring have faded, movement parts look complete, some re-bushing to the movement plates, dial and movement are original together, movement needs cleaning. pendulum and weight are later.
