A still life of a birds nest with green eggs
A still life of a birds nest with white speckled eggs
Each signed and dated 1890, oil on canvas, 24.5cm by 28.5cm (2)
Sold for £700
Estimated at £150 - £250
Example with white speckled eggs is glazed and framed although only loosley taped into the framing. Original canvas. Surface dirt and discolured varnish, minor rubbing to edges. Most evident to lower left-hand corner where the canvas is adrift of the gilt slip. Tiny nick to surface just left and centre above the birds nest. Varnish has a chalky quality. Otherwise broadly in a good and stable state of preservation.
Example with green eggs. This example is unglazed and retains only the gilt slip and attached beaded second slip (no outer frame or glass). The beaded slip also in a poor state of repair and damage at miter joints etc. Significant dust and dirt to the surface with various white splashes of a chalky nature to surface which would seem to be removable. One or two could be losses. Minor rubbing to edges more notably along the left-hand side with vertical line of paint loss or indentation.
