A First World War Cameron Highlander's Kilt and Sash, which belonged to Private George Potts Brown, service No. S/10360, "B" Company, 1st. Battalion Cameron Highlanders., together with his Certificate of Discharge, Character Certificate, War Badge award certificate, also, photocopies of Short Service Attestation Medical Case Sheets, Medical Report on an Invalid, newspaper cuttings and other related research material.
Footnote : - Private George Potts Brown was serving with the British Expeditionary Force in France when he was injured on 3rd May 1915 by a shell which exploded in the dug-out he was occupying near La Bassee. The left side of his body was injured and he was partially blinded. In one way, he was lucky to have been injured in a British dug-out rather than out in 'no man's land'. The dug-out was quite close to a dressing station where he was given rudimentary first aid before being transferred to the nearest Base Hospital at Boulogne. He returned to England on the 4th May 1915 and was admitted to the Royal Hospital Chelsea. On the 16th June 1915, George was transferred to St. Dunstan's Hostel in Regents Park, London and was officially discharged from the army in July of the same year, being unfit for War Service. Whilst at St. Dunstan's, George was taught various skills including Braille reading, basket making and typewriter skills. He left St. Dunstan's on the 25th February 1916 and was admitted to After Care, which meant he was found accommodation and financial support.
Shell damage of numerous small holes to one side of the kilt, which basically remains intact.
