General surface dirt and covered in a thick layer of discoloured varnish. Visible stretcher shadow mostly to top edge although not exclusively. Rubbing, scuffs, scratches and marks to all four edges likley from an old frame. Assorted scuffs, push marks and small scratches throughout canvas. Hole in canvas towards top right corner, approx 2cm in length. Further hole approx 20cm to the left of this, no more than 1cm. Two further holes to canvas at bottom edge both no more than 1cm (see images). Large passage across the painting towards the top edge has undergone restoration and shows evidence of wax repair to reverse of canvas. This area demonstrates retouching and infilling under UV although the restoration has deteriorated and is visible with the naked eye. Pronounced horizontal line approx 1cm below top edge which runs fully across the canvas. Sporadic areas of retouching and infilling throughout canvas.
