In fully restored condition. Somewhat stiffly reline, cleaned and revarnished. The surface is somewhat flattened and abraded in places as a result of the restoration process. Numerous areas of retouching over painting and strengthening. To include in parts; the majority of the face, left-hand arm, chest area of the reclining country girl is overpainted with some more sporadic areas of retouching and overpainting throughout her right sleeve and elements of her hair, other less consistent retouches within the lower areas of her skirt. The face of the central female also mostly repainted again with less consistent redefining around the outer edges of her bonnet and the immediate background. Some general strengthening to some of the shadows and definition throughout the foliage and elements of the tree within background of the right-hand side, parts of the landscape, foreground and fence. The face of the far right-hand side woman less comprehensively effected but some detailing of her hair likely to have received some intervention. Some areas of more vertically arranged relatively pronounced cracquelure most evident in the sky. Surface dirt and discoloured varnish. Odd fairly superficial surface scuff/abrasion. Minor rubbing and repairs to some edges, especially lower etc. Slight stretcher shadow including central horizontal band. Encased to the back with two boards therefore reverse of canvas not inspected.
