John Falconer Slater (1857-1937)
North East Fishing Village
Signed and indistinctly dated, oil on board, 38cm by 53cm
This is thought to be a painting of North Shields
Sold for £300
Estimated at £300 - £500
Covered in a layer of dirt and discoloured varnish. The paint has been very thinly applied in places and the board is showing through. We do not neccesarily believe the surface to be abraded as a result of a cleaning process. The work has a much more sketchlike quality with the pencil marks and underdrawing highly evident. Minor dark coloured slightly diagonal surface scuffs running across the roof of the far right hand building veering towards outer edge and approx. 10cm on longest length. Some brush bristles encapsulated within paint of sky. Minor abrasion lower left hand corner. Otherwise in a stable state of preservation.
