Michael Bolton (1938-2005) was a self taught silversmith, exhibiting regularly at the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths annual fair. He was inspired by the King Arthur legends and Celtic, Roman and Anglo-Saxon influences, and he was passionate about the ethics of the Arts and Crafts movement. He made the tableware used in the film The Madness of King George. Bolton described his style as "medieval art nouveau".

The ring is in good condition. It is hallmarked with sponsor's mark 'MAB', London, 1981. Gross weight 50.4 grams. CR made 2nd April 2014
