René-Louis Chrétien (1867-1945) French
Still life of onions and colander on a wooden table
Signed, oil on canvas, 37cm by 45cm
Sold for £2,200
Estimated at £500 - £800
In an overall good and stable state of preservation. Cleaned and revarnished. Fairly sporadic retouching throughout the background, somewhat more concentrated in the upper right-hand area. More sporadic and finer retouches across the colander and spoon handle and the foreground. Isolated area of retouching presumably to old cracquelure within the central part of bunched onions and further retouches to old cracquelure across the wooden table top most notably left-hand side and to a lesser extent elsewhere. The darker tones to delineate the edge or front of the table including the lower right-hand side edge etc may have been strengthened. Paint is possibly slightly thin to the background.
