A bound collection of manuscript documents relating to Womersley, North Yorkshire, with connections to the Rosse family and Lord Hawke. The majoirty of the documents are seventeenth century rent receipts for property/land in Womersley, other documents include: a manuscript document signed by Marmaduke Langdale (Lord Lieutenant of the West Riding of Yorkshire), appointing William Hammond Captain of the trained bands of the Wapentake of Claro, 13th March 1661; part of a decree outlining the lands, tithes &c. belonging to the Chapel of St Clements which once stood within Pontefract Castle, 2.5pp.
Ink manuscript on paper, approximately forty documents, various sizes, various dates (mostly mid-17th century) some mounted on paper leaves, others tipped-in, variable age-toning, few tears and holes, 19th century calf-backed marbled boards (rubbed/worn), bookplate of Geoffry Lawrence Parsons, 'Hawke MSS, 1635 to 1700' in gilt on spine, small folio.
Acquired by the vendor from the Parsons family. Womersley Park came into the possession of the Hawke family in the mid-18th century and then to the Rosse family in the late-19th century with the marriage of Cassandra Harvey-Hawke to the 4th Earl of Rosse in 1870.
