Montmorency (Anne, duc de) Two Letters Signed ('Anne de Montmorency') to Chevalier Alexandre Fiasque, possibly in a contemporary secretarial hand, 4to laid paper (one with watermark), in clear French, addressee to verso, n.p., Paris(?), September 1560 [&] April 1562. Invitations to a family friend, to dine, and to a church service at Caen (Normandy) Montmorency (1493- 1567) was constable of France and a powerful minister during the reigns of Francis I, Henry II, and Charles IX. He served in the numerous wars against the Holy Roman Empire and in the campaigns of Charles IX against the Huguenots. One letter with wax seal preserved (the other with only trace left) and some contemporary ink calculations to verso. Folds, extremities a little tatty, otherwise both very well preserved and clearly legible (2)
