ROE COCKSON, ROYAL LANCASHIRE ARTY." and with Proved poincon, the steel three bar hilt with wire bound fishskin grip, the steel scabbard with two loose suspender rings, 106.5cm; a Similar Artillery Sword, with 99.5cm undecorated fullered steel blade, steel three bar hilt with wire bound fishskin grip and steel scabbard with two loose suspender rings, 107cm; an 1899 Pattern Gymnasia Practise Sword, with straight blade, pierced steel bowl hilt and ribbed wire bound fishskin grip; a Fencing Sabre, with curved guard plate painted red to the interior and with wire side guards (4)

1 - Some pitting and grey patching to blade. Loss of fishskin to grip, with some loss of the wood to just below the pommel. Rust pitting to the guard and scabbard which has a number of small dents to one side. 2 - Black patching to blade, rust pitting to hilt and scabbard. 3 & 4 - Orange rust pitting to all metal surfaces.

Auction: Militaria & Ethnographica, 20th Sep, 2023
The sale will offer a range of good medals, including a rare silver medal struck to commemorate the death of Captain James Cook, and a Second World War MM Group of Eight Medals, awarded to Corporal Frank Shepherd of the 1st-5th Battalion the Queen’s Royal Regiment.
Amongst a good offering of militaria in the sale is a Victorian 1847 Pattern Gilt Brass Helmet to an Officer 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards, a First World War Cameron Highlander’s Kilt and Sash which belonged to Private George Potts Brown, and an Early 19th Century Naval Officer’s Dirk.
A rare 19th Century Percussion Single Barrel Big Game Rifle by William Powell & Son of Birmingham leads a selection of fine guns in the sale, also of note are a Pair of 19th Century 40 Bore Side-by-Side Double Barrel Percussion Travelling Pistols.
