Giant Clam (Tridacna gigas), circa 1860-70, two halves of one large shell, 90cm and 92cm wide, 59cm
This item, a narwhal tusk and a hippopotamus skull were purchased by the vendor's ancestors at an auction of a privately established Lancashire museum founded around 1850. By repute, the auction was in the 1860's or 70's.

Generally chipped around all the edges. Moss and water staining. Similarly for the stand - these were stored outside for many generations. 100112
