A Pair of Chinese Porcelain “Dragon” Bowls, Guangxu marks, painted in underglaze blue with five-clawed dragons in pursuit of flaming pearls above waves, six-character marks in underglaze blue
11cm diameter

Provenance: By descent from Elizabeth Shield who was a companion to Lucie Castleman, the daughter of one of the founders of the Rock Island Railroad on her travels in Europe and the Far East in the 1880s and 1900s

One bowl with a tight hairline crack (21mm). Slight pitting around footrims. Otherwise in good order. No restoration.

The Summer Fine Sale offers nearly 450 lots of ceramics, Asian art, clocks, rugs, works of art and furniture, including a collection of 19th century Terracotta Campagna Urns from Raby Castle, County Durham, a Lock of Florence Nightingale's Hair, and a French Alabaster Figure Group of the Holy Family, probably made in South West France in the late 14th century. A Private Collection of English Pottery will be offered in twenty-three lots, including numerous Prattware and Creamware figures, and the sale will also include pieces of fine 19th century furniture and good early oak and walnut furniture.
