An Early 20th. Century German Marble Tombstone, relief decorated with a half-length portrait of a soldier in First World War military dress, wearing an Iron Cross, signed to the side H. (Hugo) Dohns and dated 1921, 71.5 cm high

Footnote: This item commemorates Julius Reis (b.30.9.1896, d. 8.6.18) who was killed in action at Laon (Northern France). Of Jewish descent, his family owned a marble works near Stuttgart. Twenty years after his death they were forced to flee their homeland taking with them their most precious possessions including this tombstone.
