An Impressive Exhibition Quality Italian Carved Walnut Hall Table, by Angelo Barbetti 1859, in Renaissance style, the frieze decorated with winged serpents and putto, the rectangular mirror plate flanked by acanthus carved foliate supports, the table above fluted columns and sphinxes, flanking two relief carved panels, one signed BARBETTI, the other ANNO 1859, 118cm by 52cm by 254cm

Angelo Barbetti (fl. 3rd quarter 19th century), Siena cabinet maker and carver, exhibited at the Philadelphia Exhibition 1876. A fine walnut cabinet in 16th century style was exhibited at the 1855 Paris Exhibition, now at the Bethnal Green Museum.

Some variations in colour. Some old? worm holes, more evident on right hand sphinix and the lower section. Top right hand corner moulding with glue marks/repair. Small section of moulding missing to right hand side. Further small sections of moulding missing to the top left upper section. Small losses throughout. Various natural marks/splits. Table with slight lifting to the veneers. Natural? split down the centre. Other losses to the base section, foliate work just above the claw feet. 081111
