An 18th Century Hook and Spike Striking Wall Clock, signed Jno Gilkes, circa 1760, 10-inch dial with a silvered chapter ring, dial centre signed and with engraved scroll work, date aperture, four posted movement with anchor escapement and outside countwheel striking on a bell, hoop and spikes, 27cm high

John Gilkes is recorded as working at Shipston-on-Stour in Oxfordshire between 1740-1766. See Loomes (Brian) Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World, Volume 2, pg.89.
