Victoria, 1887 Specimen Set, 11 coins comprising; five pounds, two pounds, sovereign and half sovereign and crown down to threepence; some coins almost proof-like, hairlines and light contact marks across the set, one or two very minor edge imperfections on the five pounds, a couple of patchy toning marks to the two pounds, light marking to reverse left field of the half-sovereign, the shilling exhibiting more wear than the other coins. The shilling good very fine, the rest of the set extremely fine - about uncirculated, housed in original red leather proof set case with gilt-blocked lid, case with some wear and taped in one corner

This specialist Coins and Banknotes Sale will feature a fine offering of gold, silver, modern and historic coins and banknotes, which will appeal to collectors of all areas.
One of the highlights is sure to be a Victoria 1887 Specimen Set; the eleven-coin set features coins from the Golden Jubilee year of Queen Victoria. The set comprises a full set of gold and silver coins from five pounds to threepence and is housed in an original red leather case designed for the proof set of the same year.
There is an interesting section of Chinese silver dollars, coins and banknotes, some of which are from the collection of a Russian émigré based in North West China in the early 1900s. Some of the coins are in excellent condition for the type. The banknotes include some rare local issue Harbin notes which are seldom seen for sale.
In addition, the sale will include an excellent selection of good coins and banknotes, including a George V Proof Crown 1935, a Charles II Guinea 1683, and a rare George V Sovereign 1921 Sydney Mint. There is a pleasing group of interesting 18th-century tokens including a selection of rare Samuel Birchall, Leeds Halfpennies, each with an estimate of £180-250, and a quality group of 19th Century Commemorative and Award Medals.
