PASSENGER'S LETTER FROM R.M.S. LUSITANIA Autograph Letter written during cruise from Liverpool to New York, signed 'Your Affect Father' to 'Dear Willy & Lizzie': in total pp. [12] 8vo in ink on three separate folded sheets of blue Cunard Line illustrated writing paper, the sheets numbered 1-3 and dated Monday 9 to Thursday 12th October 1911. The well-to-do passenger gives details of the ship, its amenities and luxuries, life aboard, and fellow passengers, mentions including Sir Johnston Forbes- Robertson, actor and theatre manager. Offered with the matching blue autograph envelope, to 'Mr Ratcliffe, Newton Kyme, Tadcaster, Yorks', postmarked for a New York packet boat October 12th. Good condition, stamp missing. On 7th May 1915 a German U-Boat torpedoed Lusitania off the southern coast of Ireland. The sinking caused a storm of protest in the United States as 128 American citizens were among the dead, and was a factor in the USA's declaration of war nearly two years later
