James Lippitt Clark was a distinguished explorer, sculptor and scientist . He joined the American Museum of Natural History New York in 1902 and trained in the art of taxidermy under the tutelage of the father of modern taxidermy Carl Akeley.
Together they collected prepared and mounted many specimens for Theodore Roosevelt.
This specimen of an Indian Tiger would have been mounted early in his career circa 1902-1915 bearing an early trade label rather than the later Rhinoceros embroidered trade label.
