Natural History: A Leopard Tortoise Shell (Stigmochelys pardalis), circa mid-late 20th century, a large complete adult shell, 35cm by 25.5cm by 19cm. Leopard Tortoises are found throughout the savannahs of Africa, they favour semi-arid thorny to grassland habitats, although some have been found in rainier areas. In both very hot and very cold weather they may dwell in abandoned fox, jackal or anteater holes. They generally have a life span of 100 years.
