Shakespeare's Seven Ages: An 18th Century Ivory Fan, the monture carved and pierced with a particularly elaborate gorge, featuring a lady playing an instrument surrounded by Chinoiserie figures and flowers. The double leaf is printed with seven coloured ovals containing scenes relating to life in the times of William Shakespeare, by Sarah Ashton, 28 Little Britain, 1796. From the left, The Infant….", followed by The Schoolboy going unwillingly to school, The Lover, The Soldier, The Judge, The Man ravaged by Age and finally the Second Childhood. Marked at the bottom right "Entered in Stationer's Hall". Guard length 9.75 inches or 24cm
