A French Model 1777 "Charleville" Flintlock Musket, Corrected Year IX, the 103cm round steel barrel faintly marked to the left side of the breech C de 178 and 77, the lock plate engraved Mre.R. de Tulle and stamped with a crowned C within a diamond, with ring neck cock and detachable brass frizzen pan, the walnut full stock with two steel barrel bands (central band missing) with slots for spring clips (missing), the fore barrel band incorporating a steel blade sight and ramrod pipe, the steel trigger guard with finger grooves to the tang and a sling swivel, the shouldered butt with a cut-out cheekpiece to the left side and faintly stamped 1599/8 8 2, the steel side plate stamped C within a diamond, with steel butt plate and ramrod, 141.5cm

Strong action works, holds at full and half cock. Fine grey pitting to metalwork. Spring clips for securing barrel bands are missing, as is the central barrel band. Repairs to the stock behind the lock. Minor bruising to the butt.

Auction: Militaria & Ethnographica, 20th Sep, 2023

The sale will offer a range of good medals, including a rare silver medal struck to commemorate the death of Captain James Cook, and a Second World War MM Group of Eight Medals, awarded to Corporal Frank Shepherd of the 1st-5th Battalion the Queen’s Royal Regiment.

Amongst a good offering of militaria in the sale is a Victorian 1847 Pattern Gilt Brass Helmet to an Officer 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards, a First World War Cameron Highlander’s Kilt and Sash which belonged to Private George Potts Brown, and an Early 19th Century Naval Officer’s Dirk.

A rare 19th Century Percussion Single Barrel Big Game Rifle by William Powell & Son of Birmingham leads a selection of fine guns in the sale, also of note are a Pair of 19th Century 40 Bore Side-by-Side Double Barrel Percussion Travelling Pistols.
