Alphabet Sampler Worked by Elizabeth Dern Aged 12, 1799 designed in four bands, with verse worked in red stitches to the top, followed by images of three figures nailed to the cross with Jesus in the centre, flanked by figures in long coloured robes, 'Nail'd to the shameful tree, to bleed and die for thee', the third band depicts a running hare and stag, peacock and dog amongst three decorative trees, two are flowering, various coloured birds, showing day to the left side and night to the right, lower band reveals flowering plants and baskets of flowers followed by the child's name and verse below, within a stitched zig zag frame and floral border, framed, 53cm by 64cm

Lots 2193-2200: a Private Collection of Samplers.

Lots 2202-2275: from the Late Robert Bogdan, Barra Castle, Aberdeen, a fascinating gentleman who inherited a wealth of textiles and costume from earlier generations.
