While originating in Caithness, the legion was sent to Ireland where they remained until 1802 and presumably they commissioned the present funnel while there. For a table-spoon by James Erskine of Aberdeen, circa 1800, also engraved with the badge of the Caithness Legion see lot 2225.
Sold for £1,100
Estimated at £300 - £500
The funnel and stand each fully marked. There is some wear to the marks but each is in general legible. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The surface is somewhat bright.
