A George III Silver Goblet
Maker's Mark Rubbed, London, Dated 1816

the bowl tapering and on spreading foot, engraved on one side with an inscription and on the other with a coat-of-arms, the interior gilt
13.2cm high, 7oz 11dwt, 234gr

Dreweatts, Donnington Priory, 30 April 2014, lot 62.

The inscription reads 'Presented by I. C. Curwen Esq'r M.P. President of the Workington Agricultural Society fo Tho's Barnes Esq'r of Wolsley Close for the best managed Farm in the Abby Holme District 1816'.

Fully marked near rim. There is wear to the marks, particularly the maker's mark which is only just visible. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The wear is noticeable as a softening to the engraving.
