Lot 2207

2207

Six Queen Anne Scottish Silver Table-Spoons
Probably by Colin McKenzie Edinburgh Two 1708 and Four 1711, Assay Master Edward Penman

Hanoverian pattern, with rat-tail, each engraved with a crest, five further later engraved with a cypher

Sold for £450
Estimated at £300 - £500

Each marked on back of handle. There is wear to many of the marks and some are only just legible or illegible. There is some overall surface scratching and wear. The wear is noticeable as a softening to the engraving. Five are later engraved, likely in the late 19th century, with a cypher. There is some wear to the edge of the bowl and some bruising. The spoon without the later engraved cypher is slightly differing so may be been added later to the set, though the engraved crest and motto are the same and has similar wear as on the other pieces.

We are happy to provide Condition Reports to Prospective Buyers, but would welcome your request as soon as possible, preferably at least 48 hours before the Day of Sale.

We cannot guarantee a reply to any requests made within 48 hours of the start of the auction. The absence of a condition report from a lot does not mean that the lot is in perfect condition.

Our Condition Reports are not prepared by professional conservators, restorers or engineers, and are prepared with the naked eye unless otherwise stated.

Works are not examined out of the frame, unless specifically stated. We accept no liability for the opinions expressed in any Condition Report.
