A George III Irish Silver Goblet
Maker's Mark WG or WC Incuse, Dublin, 1795

the bowl tapering cylindrical and on spreading foot with reeded rim, engraved overall with trailing hops, one side further later engraved with an inscription within engraved barley and mugs of beer, the other side engraved with barley and agricultural implements
17.5cm high, 8oz 15dwt, 272gr

The inscription reads '3rd Prize This Cup was Presented by Mess'rs Blizard & Co. Maltsters, Tewkesbury to Jno Read Esq'r Defford for procuding the 3rd Best 200 Bushels of Barley the Growth of 1861 21st 1862'.

Marked underneath with crowned harp, Hibernia, date letter and maker's mark. The marks are generally clear. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The engraving is later.
