A William IV Silver Snuff-Box
Maker's Mark TS, Birmingham, 1835

oblong, the hinged cover with a vacant centre surrounded by engine-turning and with a foliage and flower-cast border, the base engine-turned and the sides reeded, the interior gilt, 82mm wide; Together With a George IV silver snuff-box, the base and hinged cover incised with lines, the cover further later engraved with initials, 68mm wide

Each marked inside base with makers mark, Birmingham town mark and date letter. Further marked inside cover with makers mark, duty mark and lion passant. The marks are generally clear. The larger box with some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The cover closes tightly. There is an area of pitting on the cover, as can be seen in the catalogue illustration. The smaller box maker's mark TS, Birmingham,1822. This box with surface scratching and wear. The wear is noticeable as an obvious softening to the engraving and engine-turned decoration. The initials are possibly later and are only just visible. The cover closes tightly.
