A Second World War British Paratrooper's Beret Formerly Belonging to British Army Officer and Later Hollywood Actor, Lieutenant Richard Todd OBE, in maroon wool with spiralling weave to the top - typical of early wartime berets, with leather trim and leather rectangular patch behind the blackened brass eyelets, the heavily worn black cloth lining with all markings worn away, the side bearing the outline where the original Parachute Regiment badge was located, sold together with a signed autograph album page by Todd and three document folders with personal correspondence and production / film role paperwork that belonged to Richard Todd, many of these addressed to him and his home address.

Footnote :- Richard Todd served with 7th Battalion Parachute Regiment on D-Day, helping Major Howard to hold Pegasus Bridge on the 6th June 1944, who he later portrayed in the film “The Longest Day” and in which he wore this beret.
The beret and the paperwork were discovered when his property was cleared after his death in 2009 and has since been in a private collection. It was subsequently sent to auction where it was purchased by the present vendor.

The beret shows heavy wear and has some staining and wear.

Highlights of the Militaria section include an interesting collection of items relating to Colonel Alwyn de Blaquiere Valentine Paget, a Gentleman at Arms (bodyguard) to King Edward VII, a Second World War RAF Sector Clock, used in operations' rooms to aid track and intercept enemy aircraft over Britain and two collections of badges, buttons and insignia. A good offering of Ethnographica in the sale is lead by a 19th Century Australian Aboriginal Parrying Shield, from the Lower Murray River Region.
