the circular blue guilloche enamel frame surrounds a portrait miniature depicting a Naval Officer in profile, Lt. Com. Arthar Scott Horace Pitt Rickards R.N., of Rock End, North Berwick Scotland, surmounted by an anchor bale set throughout with rose cut diamonds, in white claw settings, the reverse engraved 'Mizpah 26th March 1918', on a trace link chain; and a yellow oval locket engraved to the front with motto 'Hora et Semper' within a buckle and belt motif and hair compartment to the inside, engraved 'Ester wife of Edward Henry ob. 2nd Oct 1866', suspended from a box link chain, with a cockerel intaglio bloodstone seal attached, the family crest for 'Rickards'

The portrait miniature is sold with an original purchase receipt from John Moffat, 125 Princes Street, Edinburgh, dated July 23rd 1918.
Lt. Com Arthur Scott Horace Pitt Rickards was a very keen golfer and Captain of the Glen Golf Club and also Coxswain of the North Berwick Lifeboat. The locket belonged to Edward Henry Rickards D.L. and the engraving refers to Ester his wife. Ester Burman was the daughter of Richard Burman of Shottery Warwickshire.

The pieces are in good condition commensurate with age. The chain fastens with a bolt ring catch. The shorter chain fastens with a clip fastening. The reverse of the miniature locket is stamped '15' and in our opinion would test as gold. The other pieces bear no hallmark nor stamp. The approximate qualities of the diamonds are; caratweight 0.07, colour J/K/L, clarity I1/I2/I3. Gross weight 21.7 grams. CR made 09.03.22.
