A 19th Century Maori Taiaha, the long flat blade (ate) widening towards the tip, one side of the head (upoko) with small circular carved eyes inset with abalone shell, the opposing side with eyes lacking abalone shell, with scroll carved tongue (arero), 142cm

Two eyes have inlaid abalone shell, one has some loss. The opposing side of the head is lacking the abalone shell inlay from both eyes. There is minor wear to the tip of the tongue and some staining to the staff at the tip on one side, with some bruising. Generally in good undamaged condition, with no warping.
