. Introduced in early 1971, this impressive two-seater sports car replaced the 280 SL. The body and chassis of the third generation SL was considerably heavier and longer than its predecessor but it still showed a resemblance. The standard transmission provided a top speed of 130mph and a very respectable 0-62mph in 8.8 seconds. As with the previous generations of SLs, the vehicle came as an open roadster with a removable hardtop roof. The R107 body shape went on to become one of the longest running styles from Mercedes-Benz, remaining in production until 1989 with some 13 variants during the production run. This 1984 example is presented in beautiful light metallic blue with contrasting dark metallic hard top. The paint work is good to excellent, chrome work and exterior trim also excellent. The interior original with some discolouration and wear but generally very presentable. The all-important wooden, lacquered dashboard shows no signs of cracking or fading. On turning the key, the engine starts immediately though running a little noisy due to issues with the exhaust manifold. On the open road it pulls well, and the auto box selects and changes gear smoothly. All in all, a very presentable example of this 80's classic and with prices of its predecessor, the 280 Pagoda regularly making post 50k plus at auction, this surely is a great time to invest in this iconic second incarnation or Mercedes's sporting convertible.
