Taxidermy: A Cased Pair of Rough-legged Buzzards (Buteo lagopus), dated 1888, mounted by Joseph Cullingford, Durham, a pair of full mount adults, the female perched above the male upon a white painted plynth, both set within a white painted interior, enclosed within a large period ebonised single-glass display case, 76.5cm by 33cm by 84cm, bearing hand written text to interior floor - "Rough-legged Buzzard (Buteo lagopus) Pontoppidan 1763", bearing later signature to upper left interior side - "Cullingford 1888".

This particular case was purchased along with many others by renowned artist Mr Ray Ching, at Sotheby's auction July 09th, 1968, a collection of 100 Lots mainly mounted by Joseph Cullingford of Durham, the majority from Ushaw College, Durham, a Roman Catholic seminary, although there were some private contributions included. Mr Ching purchased this case as a trio of Buzzard cases by Cullingford within Lot 54, the interior was re-painted at a later date, the data inscripition within this case is by the hand of Mr Ray Ching.
