A US Third Pattern Commando Knife by Winchester, the 17.5cm double edge blackened steel blade...

A US Third Pattern Commando Knife by Winchester, the 17.5cm double edge blackened steel blade with uneven raised medial ridge to each side, etched WINCHESTER/TRADE MARK/MADE IN USA, ribbed alloy grip, the pommel with number 1 mould number, with brass nut, the double stitched leather scabbard with six brass eyelets
Provenance:- from the Roy Shadbolt Collection. The blade is thought to have come from the US and assembled in the UK.
During the Second World War Britain was short of commodities and it is thought that the US sent only the blades to the UK to be assembled

. Blade has a flaw to one side, and three smaller flaws to the opposing side. The raised medial ridge to each side is rather wavy,. The grip has wear and some corrosion.
