A 19th Century Fijian Gata (Snake) Club, worked from chestnut coloured dense hardwood, the large snake head with central raised ridge to the top flat, the back edge with groove carved and roughened panel, originally inlaid with two triangular (bone?) panels, with slightly curved cylindrical haft, the grip carved with vertical and horizontal bands of chevrons, with slightly swollen butt, 103cm (chips to head and butt)
