A Military General Service Medal, 1847, awarded to A.ROLLO, CORPL R.ARTY, with three clasps ROLEIA, VIMIERA and CORUNNA
**Corporal Alexander Rollo was born in Aberdeenshire in 1774. He is remembered as the man who held the lanthorn (lantern) at the funeral of Lieutenant General Sir John Moore, who was killed at the Battle of Corunna January 1809. Alexander Rollo died in 1856 and is buried with his wife at Tynemouth Priory where the headstone records his famous action
