An Attractive Mid-18th Century Ivory Fan, the leaf mounted à l'Anglaise, the monture intricately carved and pierced and painted, the gorge noticeably decorated with figures and a trompe l'oeil of white bobbin lace on a blue background. The vellum leaf is painted in pastels with a gentle scene of 18th century courtship, several couples strolling through apart, one lady listening to a piper, seated next to an elaborate stone carving of cherubs above a fountain. The verso is simply painted with a seated lady watching a cherub in flight. Guard length 11.5 inches or 29.5cm
Sold for £170
Estimated at £200 - £300
. Good for age, a small brown mark above the piper's head, several such marks on the verso which do not come through to the recto. Some loss to the backing MOP on the gorge. Unusual to find trompe l'oeil on the gorge, more often found painted on the leaf.
