A Bone Fan with painted leaf depicting an 18th century gentleman atop a ladder with painter's colour plate, been watched by a maiden gathering flowers and another gentleman, in the grounds of a large castle with circular towers. The verso is painted with a simple rural scene. The monture is elaborate, being carved and pierced, gilded and coloured in pastels, with several oval vignettes painted with flowers. Signed J. Kahenn. Guard length 8.5 inches or 21.5cm. Together with three 1880's wood brisé fans, one carved and pierced in the upper section and painted with violets in the centre. Guard length 9.25 inches or 23.5cm; a wood brisé scrap fan circa 1870, applied with embossed Regimental and personal crests in the fashion shown by the ladies' magazines of the time. Guard length 9.25 inches or 23.5cm; and another similar, with fewer crests. Guard length 9 inches or 23cm (4)
