A 16th Century German Powder Flask, of compressed cow horn, one side incised and stained with a circular laurel wreath enclosing a flower, initials M.V.B. ANNO.1596, the main field worked with two heron, a cat and a dog amidst scrolling foliage, the opposing side with remnants of decoration of figures in a landscape, the side panels with archery and duck hunting scenes, with scallop edged steel mounts and cannon barrel charger with sprung stopper, 31cm (a.f.)

The steel mounts on the top and base are loose, the base has a small area missing wear the securing pin would have been. The main horn body is good on one side. The opposing side:- the layers of horn to the centre section has some damp and insect type damage which has obliterated most of the decoration.

We are happy to provide Condition Reports to Prospective Buyers, but would welcome your request as soon as possible, preferably at least 48 hours before the Day of Sale.
