In fully restored condition. Re lined, cleaned and re varnished. The varnish has deteriorated along the top edge and across the background within the upper left hand quarter and is showing as opaque. Surface somewhat flat and thin from restoration process. There is a patch of retouching/over painting at the figure's right hand temple/brow and whilst it is not particularly discernible under a uv lamp it is suggested that the definition and darker tones of the drapery have been strengthened/embellished. Two minor horizontal creases/ imperfections to canvas towards upper right hand corner within background, the longest being no more that 3cm in length. Further likely patch of retouching which is slightly discoloured above the gentleman's left hand eye and brow, approximately 3cm in length, again whilst not necessarily showing under a uv lamp, the flesh tones of the hand may well have had some treatment. Otherwise in stable condition.
