Gallipoli Tunneller 2nd Lieutenant George Robert Bernard's Own Account of Fighting the Turks Underground, in the form of an original typed manuscript in a modern binding, compiled when he returned to the UK from the Middle East in July 1916. (He did not keep a diary but used all of the letters he sent home to his wife from Gallipoli, extracting the military paragraphs. Very well written by a witty, articulate, dynamic, tough junior officer, full of the sights, sounds, language and attitudes of the time) together with his Memorial Plaque in a copper easel back frame embossed as a laurel wreath backed by a Maltese cross and stamped ONE WHO NEVER TURNED HIS BACK, a replacement Military Cross, the reverse engraved "In Respectful Remembrance of George Robert Bernard, Tunnelling Officer", in case of issue; cap, collar and rank badges, a silver framed photograph and research material. **2nd Lieutenant Bernard served with 12th Bn The Essex Regt. attached to 1/9th Manchesters & 8th Corps Mining Company, Gallipoli Campaign 1915. He was killed in action in France 1917 aged 29, whilst serving with 254 Tunnelling Company, R.E. The M.C., which was Gazetted in June 1916, was known to be with 2nd Lt. Bernard's manuscript and Memorial Plaque in the 1990's, but was separated from them and is presumed lost.
