Initialled, signed and inscribed "31 December 1963", biro, 9.5cm by 16cm

The work forms part of Mr Neville Blakey's autograph book and is sold together with a further key book, which details on page 87 that that "This delightful sketch was drawn in the drawing room at "West View", Burnley. He [Lowry] visited us here […] and we made return visits on many occasions to his house at Mottram in Longdendale. He always enjoyed coming and being with the children, whom he watched growing up. He was a most kind person…" before describing the exchanges of their first meeting and subsequent friendship, as well as the two gifts received "the pencil sketch of 7 figures […] and the larger sketch of 8 figures", lots 509 and 510.

Slight time staining to the paper. Feint brown mark lower left corner. The odd very minor tiny scattered foxing spot in edidence, in particular to the sky and outer edges. Surface dirt to the outer edges, in particular the right edge.
The rest of the authograph book is in similar conidtion to the Lowry sketch. The cover has the odd minor nick and scratch.
The key has slight time staining to the paper with the odd scattered foxing spot. The outer pages of the book with more pronounced foxing spots in evidence.

Amongst a strong section of Northern art in the sale is a small family collection of drawings by the great L.S. Lowry (1887-1976); the three works were given by Lowry to Ruth and Neville Blakey of Pendle, Lancashire, longstanding friends of the artist, and will be sold with correspondance with the Lowry. Further Northern artists represented in the sale include Harold Riley, Peter Brook, Brian 'Braaq' Shields, Norman Cornish, and Len Tabner. 

Further highlights include a vivid seascape by Scottish artist Sir William MacTaggart, a harbour scene by Chinese-born Singaporean artist Cheong Soo Pieng who founded the Nanyang style of art, and a striking industrial landscape by Staffordshire artist Maurice Wade. 

An interesting selection of works on paper include greats such as Frank Dobson, Dame Laura Knight, David Bomberg, Sir Matthew Smith, and a good range of prints include those by Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro, Elizabeth Blackadder, Bob Dylan and Victor Pasmore.
